The Spring 2025 Council Meeting of the American Chemical Society will be a hybrid session on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 starting at 8:00am ET hosted out of Atlanta, GA during the 2026 Spring ACS Meeting. There are several items that will be up for Councilor vote during this meeting that we believe are impactful to PROF members. We have summarized these items below and state our current positions and intentions as your elected Councilors, but as always, we are open to your feedback and interested in representing you so feel free to review the full Spring 2026 Council Agenda available on the ACS website and/or contact us to discuss these items:
- During Spring ACS Council Meetings, candidates for President-Elect are voted upon by Council prior to the open election held later in the fall. A President-Elect Town Hall will be held for Councilors on Sunday, March 22nd. Both PROF Councilors will attend to learn more about the candidate prior to voting for their top 2 choices, but we are in agreement that PROF Membership does have an impact for our votes. 2025 President-Elect preliminary candidates are (PROF Members highlighted in BOLD):
- John Adams
- Lisa McElwee-White
- Mary Virginia Orna
- Laura Sremaniak
- Prior to the Spring 2024 National Meeting, Councilors from District 3 and District 6 conduct primary voting to down-select to the top two candidates for ACS Board of Directors that will be voted upon by all members of their district during the Fall open election. - The candidates for Director-At-Large have also been announced to be voted upon during the Fall 2024 Council meeting. The top 2 candidates will be elected to the ACS Board of Directors. The candidates are (PROF Members in BOLD):
- Michael (Mick) Hurrey
- Beth Lorsbach
- William Provine

- The ACS Committee on Committees (ConC) has submitted a Petition to Amend theName and Duties of the Committee on Budget & Finance (B&F). This petition would change the name of B&F to the Committee on Fiscal Affairs and update duties to provide financial stewardship guidance to component groups, provide feedback and fiscal recommendations on new ACS programs that would support strategic goals, serve as a trusted multi-channel connection for communication related to the ACS’s finances, and review the potential financial impact of proposals presented to Council for consideration.
- The ACS Committee on International Activities (IAC) has submitted a petition to Charter International Chemical Science Chapters to form a new ICSC to be known as the Sri Lanka International Chemical Sciences Chapter. Both of PROF Councilors support this petition as expansion of governance and representation around the globe aligns to PROF Values, Vision, and Mission.
- The ACS Committee on Member Affairs (MAC) has submitted the 2027 Schedule of Dues and Benefits which has not changed compared to the 2026 Schedule of Dues and Benefits, and represents a continuation of the same for 2027. Both of PROF Councilors support.
As your Councilors, we are very interested in hearing from you and hearing your thoughts, perspectives, and preferences on any of the above items described above. Feel free to contact us prior to March 16, 2026 so that we can take your voice into account prior to our vote on these items.
